Chinese New Year =)

One thing about Chinese New Year is that there is no such thing as lunch, breakfast or dinner. It's all just a massive eat-all-you-can ongoing meal, with little breaks in-between. To breathe, for instance. And wipe that dribble cascading down the channel created by your lips before it collects in an embarassing pool on the table.

One more thing is that no one can really remember the exact chinese term to call your dad's second cousin's wife's fourth sister's husband anymore. The pure Chinese traditionalists would cringe at the many calls of 'Auntie!', 'Uncle!' today. It is abit off-putting i suppose, to be called simply 'Uncle Meng'(my nephew to my dad), instead of 'Be Yi Gong' which means, erm, mother's youngest aunt's husband? Yea.

Well then, think about it. We could be somehow connected to anyone in the world, in quite an explicatory manner. Like. Elvis Presley? Erm.'Oh, him? I know him. He's the guy who touched the hand of my husband's ex-girlfriend's father's aunt.'

Okay then, enough rambling.
I think i am going to try my hand at making 'Lebkuchen', a biscuit of German-Austrian origin. It's simple enough not to be too ma fan, but complicated enough as to merit the effort. Happy chinese new year-ing!

Something.

What is it, to be Something?

Is being Anything, being Something? Nope. But it sure beats being Nothing.

Is a Something an Anything? Yes, in some sense. It is derived from it. Is an Anything a Nothing? No, of course not. Is a Nothing an Anything? Yes, it is. After all, Anything encompasses Everything.

Can an Anything be a Something? Yea, if it tries hard enough. Can a Nothing be a Something? Well, first it has to be an Anything.

And if a Something really tries hard enough, it can be The Thing.

Because a The Thing is better than a Something.

Which is better than an Anything.

Which is better than a Nothing.

It Was Just Sleeping.

Yes. I know. You thought this blog was dead, never to rise again.

But you're all wrong! It wasn't dead sillies, it was just sleeping in a comatose sorta way.

So here's to my blog, back from the very edge of death.

I just came back this morning from IKEA, where wee lim, roe seann, mun you, han ming, su wen wei keen and i spent 9.5 hours working the graveyard shift. 9.30 pm til 7.00 am in the morning. I think we were the youngest people there. Or at least we seemed the youngest. First things first, we got our very own IKEA name tags!! Wow!! ahahaha. Actually they Were pretty nice=)

They even spelt my name correctly,'H' intact and all. It's amazing how many organizations think I somehow manage to spell my own name wrong, and attempt to correct it to the usual 'Natalie'.

Wei Keen and I got assigned to do Data Entry, which was pretty relaxing. Apparently some of the guys got a job which involved pulverizing furniture and metal into little bits, which ''was so funn!! We wanted to go for a second round but it was done di.'' The hours flew by quite fast for me, though Wei Keen keeps saying its only because i had a shot of caffiene from the IKEA coffee i had earlier. Which was good.xD Coffffeeee. Didnt really feel tired until we finished our work and sat down to wait for the last break. They were playing all these emo romantic Michael Learns To Rock songs and others... Wee termed it The 100 Slowest Songs on Earth CD, but i liked some of the songs. They were nice! I like romantic songs....

Well, i thought we'd be up for a movie or something the next morning, but all of us couldn't or didnt want to budge from the comfy, cheery red IKEA sofas outside the admin office. We finally dragged our butts home after a looonggg while of deciding what to do. Waiting for the bus was agonizing. I could feel myself falling asleep on my feet. Haha but Mun You was the most exasperated one i think.xD

Went for driving again today! It hasnt lost it's charm yet, I'm still in the happy-to-drive-anything-anywhere stage. hahaha. I have to master the hill thing though. But I'm a Very Safe Driver! Anyone who has seen me drive can testify to that fact! Right??

I'm sleepy now. Remembered how Wei Keen and I were talking about romance and how we have Disney to blame for the warped idea of it. Haha. In Fuzzyland, where yr groom to be is unbelivably handsome and always a charming gentleman. And where You always have this wonderful dress on, sweetly demure but with a certain elegance and regality. And both of you are totally set on Love At First Sight. Woww. How romantic. And and! Both you and the object of your desire can sing too!!

"When you meet the someone, who was meant for you...Before two can become one there is something we must do...

Do you pull each others tails?!

Do you feed each other seeds?! (pronounced 'thheeds')

No, there is something sweeter, everybody needs....

I've been dreaming of a true love's kiss

And a prince I'm hoping comes with this

That's what brings everaftering so happy

And that's the reason we need lips so much

For lips are the only things that touch

So to spend a life of endless bliss

Just find who you love

through true love's kiss..."

What the heck. Go Disney. xD
that's all for now. Bye!=)

Happy Chinese New Year!

Hey everyone!

Firstly, a very happy chinese new year to all.xD Have fun meeting your loved ones, friends, collect lots of angpows, eat lots, grow fat...all in the spirit of things!xD

Oh well. I'm still here, a KL-ian. And proud of it!But i suppose it would be nice to have a road trip somewhere.. get away from it all..haha! Be part of the swarms converging on the tiny island of Penang or something. I'm sure it sinks a few inches during this festive season. Everyone seems to be from Penang, Ipoh. Seremban, Pahang. Hahaha. So it's pretty quiet here in KL. More room for everyone! I suppose people don't 'balik kampung' to KL. It would be kinda contradicting don't u think?'Kampung Kuala Lumpur' is a bit of an oxymoron, in fact.xD

So what are my plans for the Lunar New Year? Well. The usual. Visit, eat, eat, visit, reunion dinners, angpows... I notice people have stopped saying 'wow, nat has really grown huh?'(unless the last time they saw me was like agggeeesss ago). I have reached the end of that era i suppose. Now it's my brother who gets all the "boy you're so tall now!" kinda comments. And he loves to gloat about how tall he is and all. Haha! We used to call him 'shortie' so i guess he has the right to.

So what comes to my mind when I think of this new year?
  1. Cookies
  2. Cookies
  3. Reunions
  4. Good Food
  5. Family
  6. People converging on my room(last time the cousins used to play 'fashion show' with my cloth and blankets and stuff very cleverly designed and draped and twisted into runway material. Now everyone's overseas.sigh.)
  7. Hot weather
  8. Red
  9. Scrambling to say the chinese titles of different relatives correctly, some whom i hardly see..no simple 'uncle' 'auntie' mind you.xD
  10. Fun!
  11. No classes!!xD
Notice I don't mention 'angpows'? Hahaha! OK i guess they do come to mind.. but the rest came first. Seriously.xD

OK then, that's all for now..Wishing you guys a very happy and blessed Chinese New Year! Ta's!

Dreams

Wow. It seems that guys don't really hate shopping, according to my poll. I suppose the results aren't actually really worth anything since only 9 people voted so far. Haha. Vote people!!

I cant' wait til' the holidays. However meager ours' are, they still count.

I'm getting sick of eating bread everyday.. need something solid. xD

Gosh i love sleeping.

Oh and yesterday... I dreamt that I was a medical student and i was supposed to handle a dead body. And Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy was my partner. Haha! Anyway, this girl was a burns victim, "the only fatality in that house fire", said the doctor/nurse in charge. The girl's left arm was grotesquely burnt and swollen..and the rest of her was pretty bad too. But her face was really pretty and she was probably about 8 to 9 years old. It was quite sad..She was lying on this white bed. And i remember putting on black gloves to do the procedure. Then Meredith was like "I thought we were supposed to wear yellow gloves.." and so i quickly produced a pair of yellows from nowhere and put them on. Then when i turned to the dead girl, she was no longer there. In her place was an old man. Freaky, i know. Then suddenly the nurse was shoving the man's torso(yes, only his head and torso were left, i have no idea where the rest went to) into a blue garbage bag. I stared in shock and horror and she just said "and the shadow of the day, will embrace the world in grey". Somehow i understood that that meant that these things happen, death happens, just accept it and move on.

I know. Weird dream. Plus the Linkin Park Lyrics at the end too. xD and it was so vivid.

Dreams are nice though. OK not all dreams. But they are nice sometimes, you know? I used to have lots of exciting adventure dreams.. On a mission, or something else.. I had scary dreams as well..like that one i had about Encik Aswie(BM teacher) saying to me and Roe very somberly that we needed to be killed on the electric chair(which looked an awful lot like a normal white deck chair) because there were too many students in school already. We screamed like crazy and ran out.xD

So what triggers certain dreams to happen? I believe some dreams have their purpose. Some are God-given dreams. But some of mine are just silly. Why does one dream of this and that? Scenarios that don't even make sense, scenes that just evolve quickly from one unbelievable circumstance and surroundings to others. Sometimes in full, vivid colour, some in black and white. Sometimes one dreams of one's friends doing things they would never do in real life. Is it just the imagination running when you sleep? I suppose so.

Then there are the theories. We shall just give them a brief run through, shall we?

First up...

Freud's Theory.

He believed that a dream represented an ongoing wish along with the previous days activities. They may even portray wishes that have been inside us since early childhood. In fact, he believed, every dream is partially motivated by a childhood wish. Another interesting idea was that nothing is made up during a dream and that they are biologically determined, derived completely from instinctual needs and personal experiences.

And so. Using my recent dream, I have an ongoing wish to become a medical student and deal with dead bodies and i have done so before. Erm, no. Is this a wish that has been inside me since childhood? No, don't think so. Instinctual needs and personal experiences? Do i instinctively need to touch a dead body and have i ever done so before? Nope. Hmmm.

OK then, bring on the next one.

Cayce's Theory
When it came to the idea of dreams having purpose, Cayce's theory was a bit different then the others. He believed dreaming to be the body's way of "self edification," which is the building up of the mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. It was a way of quickening the dreamer to his/her own human potential. By getting a good nights sleep, any person could develop more mature values, stretch their thinking, and right one's self.

Again, application? Errrr....next one!

Evan's Theory
According to Evans, every time we go to sleep our brain disengages from the external world and uses this time to sort through and organize all the information that was taken in throughout the day. While we dream the brain comes back on-line for a short period of time and the conscious mind is allowed to observe a small sample of the programs that are being run. The brain attempts to interpret this information in the same way it would during the wakeful state, what is created from these samples of information is a dream. In a nutshell, dreams are nothing more than a minute amount of the information that is being scanned and sorted during REM sleep.

Well. This one kinda does almost make a little sense, sorta. Haha. I mean, I've definitely had dreams about everyday situations, haven't you? And when you dream, you dream the outcome of these situations. Like for example you're gonna perform on stage the next day and you dream that you fall off the stage or something. OK maybe Freud's theory does make some sense too, what with 'personal experiences' and
'an ongoing wish along with the previous days activities'.

And... last but most definitely NOT the least...

Nat's Theory of Why We Dream.
Sometimes it's God-given, sometimes our mind is just working overtime hand-in-hand with a vivid imagination and sometimes we dream about what happened in real life during the day and what may happen tomorrow, usually with a little unexpected twist in the outcome. Or alot of the time we may dream about something that has been bugging us and is constantly on our minds.

Now This makes complete sense, doesn't it?Mhmm..simple, short and sweet.xD

Well, that's it for now. Good night people, dream nice dreams. Think hard about furry rabbits and sweet deer in candyland or something, In full technicolour.xD Ta's!

Federal Day!

Got up late for once.. and headed off to our old alma mater to do a bit of busy-bodying with the debaters and see some of the teachers. Unfortunately i came late so only got to see like 3, Pn.shaja, Pn. Anne and Pn. Shalini. We, meaning me n Edward, talked briefly about debate to the many hopefuls trying out for the new team. Then we made up topics for the mock debates. I miss debate!! From the agonizing meetings over the topic where we talk rubbish more than anything else to the writing speeches (ok maybe not that) to the journey there squashed in the car to the debate itself to the victory...and then to the celebratory lunch after. Gosh I miss it. I hope these people make it to the nationals this year! Go DU!=)

And then...headed off with Kok, Ed and Mun You to One U in a taxi. Guess what movie we watched? Meet the Spartans. BEst Movie Ever. Uh-huh. NOT. DO not EVERR watch that movie. Seriously. I wanted to walk out. Haha. We tried looking for Jo in the Maxis shop but she wasn't there.

Oh well, I did buy 2 new tops at Miss T. Nothing to brighten one's day than a bit of shopping.xD

After the movie me, Kok and Mun You went to try catching a bus back. I'm a big girl now, see?(and it's really handy not to have to call your parents to fetch or pick me up, that way i can come back whenever i like.xD) We tried flagging this bus down but the driver was like ignoring poor Mun You..he just kept turning the bus, no wave of acknowledgment or anything. Mun You's reaction was so funny. Haha!

"OH MY GOD, OH my god....Tooo Much! TOO MUCH! WHAT IS THIS!!"

And then we tried running to catch the other U82 that we saw passing by way on the other side from where we were. And missed it, of course.

"TOO MUCH! OH MY GOD...ohmygod...if I don't catch the next one i'm gonna KILL myself!!"

He said 'oh my god' so many times. In a really cool high pitch thing with his voice too. You'd have to be there to truly appreciate it. Hahaha!!

Well we did finally get a bus in front of Bu4..after some waiting. And so i headed back, assuring Mun You and Kok that if anything happened to me, they'd just read it in the papers the next morning. Mun You was worried. Aww thanks Mun You. Haha! I did get back safely anyways.xD

And that's it for today. I still wanna go to the Gardens and Pavi! Anyone reading this take me there someday! I'm free! Really! The thing i like about college is it kinda feels freer too. xD

Chinese New Year is coming! More Holidays! Kinda. Haha. More outings! xD

Ok that's it for now..cya guys soon! Ta's!=)
